If you’ve been in the office before you’ve probably heard us all say, “ The power that made the body heals the body.” Believe it or not, this quote actually came from one of the founders of chiropractic, B.J. Palmer. When we look back in history, on September 18th 1895, that’s the day chiropractic all began, that is when interference was removed so that power could flow within the body the way God created it to. That is when D.D Palmer delivered the very first chiropractic adjustment to a man, Harvey Lilliard, to restore his hearing. Since that day, chiropractic has only continued to develop. One man, D.D Palmer’s son, B.J. actually laid the foundation for research and establishing the chiropractic profession. He continually reinforced the power that God put in each and everyone one of us, which he called Innate Intelligence.
B.J. Palmer endorsed Ralph Stevenson to write The 33 Chiropractic Principles to further explain the innate intelligence with in us. In these principles he explains that everyone, who has life has the power of innate intelligence within them; God created each person with it. This power allows your body to adapt to the forces and matter around it in our environment. It helps the body to coordinate action, to work in favor of life and never destroy the body in which it works. This innate force is expressed in how the body functions, this is how our heart knows how to beat and lungs know how to breathe. We can see this force working throughout the body, in the body’s ability to adapt, eliminate, assimilate, grow, and reproduce. However, there can be interference preventing the flow of these innate forces throughout the body. The flow of these forces are not only prevented by thoughts or toxins, but also by subluxations; which are misalignments within the spine affecting the nervous system. If the interference in the nervous system is not corrected dis-ease will build in the body. So how do we remove the interference? The answer is a chiropractic adjustment.
The chiropractic adjustment corrects the misalignment in the spine affecting the nervous system. This restores the flow of innate forces throughout the body. If innate is able to flow at 100% that means our health is at 100%. That means we are able to live out the fullest potential that God put in each of us. That means that the body has no limitations and can respond to any stressors (chemical, emotional, or physical) placed on it exactly how it needs to.
In the time that we are in right now, we are surrounded by fear and doubt suggesting that our bodies can’t take on a virus. Let’s remember that God created us perfectly. We have a strong body that is capable and prepared to fight and adapt to stress and our environment. We have a body that works in favor of our survival and that responds in every moment of everyday to take care of us. So let’s make sure that we are doing our part to support our bodies by removing any interference.
